Wind Mills Can Cut Your Energy Bill

Energy costs keep rocketing with no end in sight.  Pollution levels are increasing and our planet is facing a warming trend that would have devastating results.  So that the query is what can the average voter do to economize and help the environment at the same time?  One great way to help is to lower the amount of electricity your house purchases from the utility company by making your own power.  There are a few tactics to try this, and wind energy is one of the easiest and more trustworthy ways to produce energy at your house.

What is a Wind Turbine?

A wind turbine is an easy machine that collects kinetic energy produced by wind currents and converts this energy into power that may be used in the home.  Turbines are installed on high towers ; these towers are often around eighty to one hundred and twenty feet high.  Towers must be high enough to permit the turbine to be above any turbulence generated by objects on the ground.  The higher the altitude also ends up in higher wind speed and in turn, a raised amount of energy can be produced.

How do wind turbines Work?

wind energy is used to create mechanical energy.  Turbines have blades that are turned by the wind ; these blades turn a shaft to which they are connected.  The shaft is then attached to a generator ; the mechanical energy is transferred into the generator thru the shaft and converts the mechanical energy into electricity.  This electricity can then be utilized in the home for any electric need.  Houses that are using wind turbines to provide power are still linked up to the power grid.  Being connected up to the power grid allows the home to still have power when wind currents aren’t strong enough to produce electricity.  Another benefit of continuing to be connected to the power grid is that at the times your wind turbine is producing more power than your house can use, the use company is soaking up the extra energy and paying you for it.  This can end up in really low electrical bills.  A wind turbine can lower your energy bill by 50-80% depending on the amount of wind in your neighborhood.

Types of Wind Mills

There are 2 main kinds of turbines : horizontal- axis turbines and vertical-axis turbines.  Turbines also come in several sizes as well .  Utility corporations use wind turbines that may vary in size from one hundred kilowatts up to several MW.  These bigger turbines are found in groups on wind farms.  If you drive over the Temecula pass in California, you can see large wind farms along the road.  It’s a spectacular site.  Tiny turbines, one hundred kilowatts or less, are used at houses.  These are place on towers on the homeowner’s property and then used to provide some of the energy wanted to run the home.  Since the scale of the tower is kind of large, they’re typically employed in areas where the home is on one acre or more.  There are miniscule turbines on miniscule towers that may be ready to be of use in urban areas or on smaller lots.

The Future of the Wind Turbine

In Sep of 2008, the U.S.  Senate passed a bill that grants a 1 year extension of the clean energy production tax subsidy.  If passed by the U.S.  House of representatives the tax break would be available till December 2009.  Wind energy is a viable part of the solution to lessen our dependence on traditional fuels.  Wind energy is a replenish-able resource and produces no harmful pollutants.  The future looks bright for wind power and hopefully, as a consequence, there’ll be a bright future for our planet too.

Make Your Own Wind Mill

If you’re living in a country that has a mean wind speed of over 7 mph, you might make your own wind turbine to power your home this would be a great way to save money on your energy bill.

How To Make A Difference - Renewable Energy

I suspect that most people would accept that we should all now be using renwable sources of energy.  While solar electricity and wind energy are now well-established, I confess to being somewhat doubtful of the degree of commitment of states on the subject of renewable energy, and hence my question .  Can we make a difference?

To date, states have stated that they have commitment to reduce carbon emissions, and have given grants for better insulation of homes, installation of solar power to heat water, solar power to create electricity and wind mills to generate electric power.

Some govts like the United Kingdom have built offshore wind farms and are building more.  Some on shore wind farms have also been built, but these are coming up against growing opposition from the members of the general public particularly attempts to erect wind farms in locations of excellent natural beauty.  It appears to be a case of we need replenish-able energy so long as it is’not in my back yard.’ there’s also talk about harnessing the power of waves to generate power.

I suspect that as individuals we will all contribute to reducing our carbon footprints by conserving energy in our homes and using renewable energy wherever possible.  There are many straightforward measures we can take at home which cost nothing such as not leaving electric appliances at the ready, turning down our heating thermostats by one degree, and using a full load in our washers as well as many other easy measures.  We can replace our light bulbs with low energy bulbs, draft proof our doors and windows and ensuring that our insulation is satisfactory to maximize the energy potency of our houses.

the price of providing clean energy systems in our houses is coming down all of the time, and it is now feasible to build your own solar cells and wind turbines at home to a pro standard for about a hundred dollars.  Kits can be bought online for under $50 to build both these sorts of replenish-able energy.  A more fresh invention is the reintroduction of magnetic power generators.  It is feasible to build an infinite motion machine to provide free electricity for as little as $100.

Another form of renewable energy is heat pumps.  These take power from a low temperature source and upgrades it to a higher temperature at which it can be usefully employed for heating.  For instance ground source heat pumps which use stored heat in the earth’s temperature and converts it into free heat for the property.  These pumps do need space at the front or rear of the property and have a tendency to be dear at around $12,000.

Turning to transport, which represents a huge area of carbon emissions, we know that fossil fuels will not last for all eternity, yet there seems to be tiny sign of alternative fuels being introduced.  I speculate why?  I believe we know the solution to that ; the oil companies have a vested interest in the continuing use of fossil fuels and they are extremely tough.  While it is true to claim that some of them have invested in clean energy, as the Manager of one oil company stated latterly, they still see fossil fuel use continuing for several years to come.  Sadly governments, though they make noises about reducing transport pollution, have no real eagerness for alternative fuels since they make so much tax revenue from ordinary fuels.

the UK and other european nations do insist on a percentage share of bio-fuel being included in the provision of fuel for transport.  However they’d in recent times to cut back the level of bio-fuel as they found farmers were inclined to grow products like rape seed for oil, rather than food crops.  The employment of bio-fuel is of course dishonorable when we consider the world food shortage.  What governments have latched onto is battery autos, there isn’t any pollution, but they don’t seem to be a doable solution.  They are pricey and can only travel 100 miles before having to be recharged.

I am certain that there’s a fuel that can be employed to power combustion engines that does not pollute the atmosphere.  More than thirty years back one of the large EU vehicle manufacturers made an automobile that ran on water, yet nothing has been heard of it since.  they were warned off by the oil companies.  In spite of Governments being somewhat halfhearted towards total commitment on carbon emissions, I do believe that as people we all can and should do our bit to reduce carbon emissions.  Our houses are one of the main areas where we can make a contribution.  The brilliant thing is that in doing so we will be able to save ourselves a substantial amount of money in these tough economic times.

Earth for energy - The Good Stuff

What is Earth4Energy?While governments and everyone else is talking about and trying to be environmentally aware, you have undoubtedly been wondering how you can do this yourself.

I have been researching ways to minimize my adverse effects on the environment.

I am searching for opportunites to save cash even during the recession and gloomy outlook in the future.

Whatever I can do that reduces my monthly expenses and leaves me with more money for other things is a bonus, so naturally if I can spend less on electricity or non at all, I am helping myself.

However, a key finding of my research was that achieving this goal was hindered by the prohibitively high cost of alternative energy solutions.

To get the house fitted for enough solar panels to power it would cost well over $10,000.  Unfortunately, the prohibitive costs I’m talking about for windmills can run you from $5,000 on up to $10,000 and more.  I’m sure you’ll agree this is quite an expense or wind power and would take many years to offset this costs on the small monthly savings it does for your electric bill.  Also a big problem with wind is where I live its only windy a couple of days a month.

Solar will be best choice for where I live because in between 250 & 310 days per year there is sunny weather in Texas.

But I kept coming back to the nagging problem of the five figure costs.  Unfortunately, he was extremely difficult for me to get over that nagging high cost problem.  “The way the the economy is going these days, who has an extra $10,000 to spare?”

I know I certainly don’t and you probably don’t either.

And that’s when I stumbled upon this solution which would allow me to outfit my home with solar panels at a fraction of the cost may be even under $1,000 to fully outfit my property.

I do not have $1,000 lying around and you may not either.    The really neat part is that I learned from Earth 4 Energy how to do this in parts so I could add one a new panel each month and spend less than a few hundred bucks.

Before I began Earth 4 Energy it cost me an average of three hundred and eighty seven dollars each month to pay my electric charges only.  Ever since I started conserving light, my electric bills last month has gone down drastically.

When you look at the numbers and percentages it’s a whopping amount.  Just a dollar amount is over $65 which could be a high-class dinner for two.

A handful of people on earth are finding that the electrical company is paying them money each month.  When I saw that the electric company could pay me that got me really excited.

Take a quick look here to see how you can be greener and save money in the process.

Electricity from Wind

In addition to a solar power system, many savvy home owners are also installing a wind turbine to help them lower their electricity bills. The power made from a wind turbine will not be as substantial as a solar cell panel system but it is available for more of the day and will keep generating electricity when the sun has gone. There are a wide variety of wind turbines that will help you generate electricity from wind at your home and most of them are small and very affordable.

These wind turbines can be used along with a solar power unit and can be installed by them selves as a stand-alone power solution to generate electricity from wind. There are models that can be mounted on your roof that will create enough power for most of your house hold needs.
In days gone past the wind turbines were large, noisy and expensive, this posed a problem to many homeowners since to generate electricity from wind turbines they needed a large tower that was most unsightly and would garner complaints from the neighbors. Modern wind units are more efficient and smaller than these early models and also take advantage of much smaller breezes to generate electricity from wind.

The styles of these turbines today are numerous some are based on traditional horizontal design and some very innovative like the new vertical axis designs. These vertical axis models tend to be less efficient than most of the horizontal models, but do a better job of turning more consistently. They can do all this because they do not have to orient themselves to the changing direction of the wind. They are always facing the wind and can continue to turn even in the most aggressive of winds and will generate power for longer portions of the day as a result.

Power companies use huge versions of these wind turbines today for producing electricity from wind power. Modern large scale wind turbines have improved rapidly in recent years and today generate tremendous amounts of electricity for the power utilities that is then used in businesses and homes.

Electricity from wind offers a very attractive power generation alternative. It has none of the negative impacts that are associated with either nuclear or coal powered generation plants and does not contribute to global warming or the ozone layer damage.

The future for our planet is in generating more electricity from wind as well as renewable energy solutions. The wind turbine technology today has so many more improvements and innovations still to come.

How To Build Home Wind Turbine At Home

Having a home wind turbine installed at your house isn’t really an expensive affair. It will cost you no more than $200 to get one done for your home. Think of the long-term benefits, both financially and ecologically. It simply makes the small investment well worth it!  In areas where the average wind speed is about 11 miles per hour (and in some places even a bit less), you can reduce the cost of production to zero and have more than enough power to go around.

While tapping the power of the wind may seem to be a difficult feat in the past, there are a number of fantastic instructional guides out there that can make it so much easier. Learning how to build your own wind turbine is a totally achievable feat that can be done with minimal technical knowledge and minimal initial investment.

Tapping the power of the wind can be a hit or miss procedure, so it is a wise idea to get educated before you start to build your device. By understanding the nature of wind you can ensure that when your home wind turbine goes up, it is in the right place that will generate the most electricity for your home. While wind may in theory be simply a mass movement of air particles, its speed and energy shows that it needs to be carefully harnessed. A well designed home wind turbine will gather some of the available wind energy without taking it all, as the turbine needs to be continually affected by the wind and not made to slow down too much. Calculations have showed that no more than 60% of the wind energy can be extracted without adversely affecting the performance of the wind turbine.

Another important consideration worthy of some thoughts is the patterns of the wind in the area of installation. While a casual observer may not see any such patterns in the wind, seasons and temperatures do dramatically affect performance. Getting the balance right between low and high wind areas is also important to a successfully operated generator. Installing a home wind turbine is a fantastic and enriching project to do, both for you and for the environment. With a few simple considerations, a little common sense and much less money than you would imagine, it is possible to start generating your own electricity and doing your little bit for the future of the environment and the future health of your own electrical bills.

Let’s sum things up. If you’re seriously considering to build a home wind turbine, there are a few things to keep in mind. First, you’ll need to make sure that you do have enough wind to efficiently generate wind power. Secondly, ensure that you have a solid plan in place to set up your wind turbine. You’ll want to have a good design, sturdy materials that can withstand high winds, and an understanding of the market before you start to set up your own home wind turbine.

How To Build a Solar Panel

If you are cost or environmentally-conscious, the idea of learning how to build a solar panel for your house helps to reduce your electrical bills significantly by powering appliances in your home.No matter what reason you’ve got in mind to build your solar panel, we’ve got some useful advice for you to get going in the right direction.

If you are cautious about the high costs of solar panels offered by manufacturers, the alternative shortcut is to Do-It-Yourself. It can be done.

Basically, home solar power systems gather energy from the light that the sun casts on our planet through solar cells. These cells channel the energy into deep cycle batteries where we can store it until we need it. The job of the solar panel is to keep the batteries charged at all times.

The components required for building your own solar panels are very affordable and most can be found at your local hardware store.

Learning how to build a solar panel will save thousands of dollars. On top of that, you will be enjoying a long term benefit of saving hundreds every month on electrical bills.

Materials you need include:

• Solar Cells
• Wire crimping tool
• Wire cutters
• A sheet of plywood
• Some Copper wires
• Screwdriver
• Cobalt steel jobbers’ twist drill bit, heavy duty, wire gauge size 26, 3″ L, 1c” L flute
• Machine screw size high-speed steel hand tap taper, 10-24, H3 pitch diameter, 4 flute
• 7/32 drill bit
• Plastic sheet cutter
• Reamer
• Pliers
• Hacksaw
• Solder, 60/40 or silver
• One Soldering iron, or soldering station
• A few sheets of glass
• Drill
• Do-It-Yourself installation manual

A solar panel will probably take only a weekend worth of time to build if all procedures are planned properly. Spend some time researching on where to get inexpensive solar cells, draw blueprints for construction and find out how much power you will need to generate. In fact, solar cells can be found online in eBay.

The best position to place an array of panels is on the south incline of your house, if that is not an option any spot that gets sunlight most of the day will do. The solar panels will only start making electricity when they are exposed to sunlight.

The knowledge acquired when you discover how to build a solar panel is priceless as electricity costs are on a constant uptrend. With the skills of generating electricity at home, you will be able to cut all these expenses to zero with ease.

When compared to commercially available solar panels which can sometimes cost thousands of dollars, you can save a considerable amount by building your own.In general, you should be able to complete this for under $200 or so depending upon the quality of the components you buy. Some of the materials can be easily found at your local hardware store.  However, some will be easier to find than others, so if you encounter any difficulties, be sure to search around online for them as well. The short list of components you will need to build a solar panel are a high quality deep cycle battery, an electricity inverter, solar cells, and an electrical charge controller.

While it may seem tempting to do so, it probably isn’t realistic to expect that you are going to be able to build a solar panel sufficient to supply power to your entire home. A better way of looking at the construction is to think of the solar panel as something that will help to reduce your overall electrical bills by hooking it up to small devices like your computer, toaster, TV, refrigerator, etc.  As an added bonus, by keeping your solar panel a modest size, you can take it with you almost anywhere.

Lastly, you’ll need to make sure that the guides you are using to build your solar panels are tested and proven. This may mean that you have to pay for them but in the long run the cost to go back and do over what never should have been done in the first place will always be higher, so plan ahead.

Global Warming and Building Green

One of the best solutions to the global warming problam that many people do not think about.  Building green is designing and constructing buildings with the environment in mind.  It is these practices that can have an impact on stopping global warming.

Green Building

Houses give off a high percentage of a country’s total carbon dioxide emissions.the figure In the United States, is about 38%.  Since carbon dioxide is one of the greenhouse gases, houses contribute strongly to global warming.

one of the ways we can cut the greenhouse emissions  of houses, and therefore help stop global warming, is to minimize the energy use needed to sustain comfortable living in a house.  There are several ways to do this.

One way is to be careful about what building materials are used.  Some building materials can be from quickly renewable sources.  These include bamboo and straw.  Also, building materials can be used that originates near the building site.  This cuts down on transportation, and so cuts down on emissions of greenhouse gases and global warming.  One example is stone houses built with local stone.

Ceapest Solar Panels

Buildings are also often built using recycled materials.  Wood can be used from an older home that has been torn down.  This will prevent the need to cut down other trees.  Since the deforestation of the land contributes to global warming, this will help the situation.

Heating and cooling have a big effect on the amount of global warming caused by a house.  Some ways to help this are very simple.  One is to design the house to sit on the lot so that sunlight will come in through the windows and warm the house.  It can also be oriented so that breezes will blow through the windows more naturally for cooling.

In this way, inexpensive solar energy can be used to heat and cool the house. This can be sometime cut down on the results of the greenhouse emissions from a house.  Global warming will be lessened.  Insulation is important to maximize on the cool or heat that is in the house.  With good insulation, you will need a less intense heat or cooling source.

The main heating and cooling source in most green houses will be solar panels, wind power, or hydropower.  Any of these sources will power a house with minimal effects on global warming.  At the same time, these sources of energy will sustain a household in a comfortable style.

There are few organizations in the US that aid in the cause of stopping global warming by encouraging green building.  One non-profit organization makes it their business to foster green building methods in both houses and commercial buildings.  This group of people from the building industry is a part of the Green Building Initiative.

The state of Washington has required builders of buildings larger than 5000 square feet to use green building practices.  Their law was enacted in 2005.  It should help to keep a cap on global warming.

Green building is important for a number of reasons. One just happens to be that it can reduce the emissions of greenhouse gases.  If green building can help stop global warming, perhaps it is time for everyone to build green.
